What is a Screenprint?
Screenprinting is the process of transferring a stencilled design onto a flat surface using a mesh screen, paint and a squeegee.
A stencil is created on a fine mesh screen through which paint is pushed to create an imprint of the design on the surface beneath.
In the case of multicoloured artwork, each colour is applied in individual layers, using separate stencils for each paint.
Preparing a fine mesh fabric by tightly stretching and attaching it to a metal or wooden frame
The screen is coated with a thin layer of photo-sensitive emulsion using a scoop coater
The printmaker must repeat the process using a different stencil for each color.
